Late changes and unclear approvals create avoidable pressure around payday. A documented payroll cycle gives each input a cutoff and each exception an owner, so the reviewer knows what changed before authorizing the run.

Payroll outsourcing can include input preparation, pay-run support, review packs, payroll journals and reconciliation. Your engagement must state who calculates, reviews, pays and submits each output. Do not assume those responsibilities transfer simply because payroll work is outsourced.
The required inputs depend on the system and engagement. They normally include approved employee changes and the agreed hours, pay items or adjustments for that period. Set a cutoff and an escalation owner for missing or late information.
Record what changed, why it changed and which period it affects. The reviewer decides the appropriate correction process before updated outputs are released. Keep the original and revised review trail together.
